F1, Pirelli sole supplier until 2019

Pirelli will be the sole supplier of tires for the FIA Formula One World Championship for another three years after the conclusion of the current one. The Milanese manufacturer and FIA have renewed the relevant contract, which will therefore extend from 2017 to 2019.

The agreement was ratified at the end of the winter season during which the FIA and Pirelli, in collaboration with the Teams, reached an important agreement making changes to the Technical Regulations. In fact, in 2017 a new technical regulation will come into force which will include significant changes to the chassis and the increase in tire width.

To better organize and manage the innovations introduced, Pirelli has therefore shared with the FIA and the Teams the need for a change to the Sporting Regulations regarding testing. This change now allows you to:

1) Test with single-seater in 2012 or 2013 or 2014 specification and with tires in the current sizes containing new prototypes (in structure and compound) with a view to 2017.
2) 25 days of testing/car with modified 2015 single-seater and with prototype tires in the sizes required by the 2017 Regulations: 305/670-13 at the front and 405/670-13 at the rear for tires with slick tread.

For mode (1.) these tests are already underway, on the basis of an agreement shared with the Teams.
The tests in mode (2.), i.e. with 2017 size tyres, will begin during the summer according to a program agreed by the FIA with the participating teams.
