F1, Pirelli announces the tire compounds for the next three Grands Prix

Today Pirelli confirmed, as previously announced a month ago, the choice of tires for the next British Grand Prix, namely the PZero Silver hard (prime) and the PZero Yellow soft (option). The Italian company also announced the nominations for the next two grand prix, in Germany and Hungary.

For the German Grand Prix, which this year will be held at the Nürburgring, the PZero White medium and PZero Yellow soft will be used respectively as 'prime' and 'option': exactly as happened in the European Grand Prix in Valencia.

For the narrow and tortuous Hungarian circuit of the Hungaroring, the tires chosen are the PZero Yellow soft (prime) and the PZero Red supersoft (option): the same nomination made for Monaco and Canada.

Silverstone is one of the fastest circuits of the year, which requires the use of the hard compound to deal with the sustained high speeds, a characterizing element of the English track. Soft tires are a choice that will provide teams with many opportunities to exploit their strategy in the race.

The Nürburgring features a wide variety of speeds and corners, making it the ideal terrain for the medium compound – with a very versatile range. The soft tire should be faster, so it is likely that all the leaders will use it in qualifying.

The Hungaroring has several tight corners and a low average speed, so it is better suited to the two softer compounds in the PZero range, which offer the ultimate in performance and grip.

The comment of Pirelli Motorsport Director, Paul Hembery: “Our choices are designed to make the most of the opportunities in terms of strategy and find the right compromise between performance and durability. For Silverstone, they confirm the decision made a few weeks ago, after consulting all the teams again, and for the next two races we have arrived at what we believe to be the best solution based on the information gathered so far. As has been the case up to this point in the year, we believe that in the next three grands prix there will be a fairly wide variety of strategies but, for all races, it is reasonably difficult to predict how many pitstops will be made: ultimately, it all depends on the strategy and the strengths of each single-seater and each team.”
