F1 | Piero Ferrari optimistic: “Power unit? Last year there were many problems, but I think they have been resolved"
Optimism about the new SF-23 unit
Waiting to discover the first results of the new one on the track Ferrari SF-23, the car with which Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will face the next 2023 Formula 1 world championship, Piero Ferrari has drawn up an initial assessment of the work carried out by the factory technicians on the 2023 specification power unit, highlighting how many of the problems that emerged last year should have been resolved.
A precision development, carried out over the winter, which on paper should guarantee riders a powerful, reliable engine capable of competing on equal terms with those of Honda and Mercedes. Ferrari, we remember, debuted the SF-23 today with Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard completed several laps in the new car, making a great start to the three-day pre-season test in Bahrain. Charles Leclerc, however, will take to the track during the afternoon.
“I have been on the engine test bench and on the simulator in recent days,” said Drake's son to the well-known Emilian journalist Leo Turrini. “There were many problems with our power unit in 2022, but I believe that in the 2023 specification they have been resolved. As for the rest, obviously it's best to wait. Anyone who claims to have certainties without having seen the cars all together on the track is speaking nonsense."
