F1 | Piastri: “I spoke with Ricciardo, there are no hard feelings”

2023 will bring an all-Australian rotation to Woking. In fact, McLaren gave Daniel Ricciardo the sack, one year ahead of the natural expiry of his contract, and decided to focus on compatriot Oscar Piastri. Lando Norris' future teammate admitted that there are no hard feelings between him and the former Red Bull and Renault driver, especially on the latter's part, having spoken to each other in a recent chat.

Piastri in fact admitted that it was Ricciardo himself who "broke the ice", speaking first and reassuring him about what had happened.

"I had intended to get in touch with him, but with the right timing – declared Piastri, interviewed by the podcast In the Fast Lane – He was obviously at a race and, frankly, I didn't really know if he wanted to hear from me. I was thinking what to say, but he beat me to it. Daniel is a true professional. My respect for him was already very high, and it grew in the way he responded to me. With him wanting to talk to me, it was great to know there are no hard feelings. He helped me a lot, it was a nice moment. If I can emulate the successes he has had on the track, and also the character off the track, then it will mean I have done a great job".
