F1 | Palmer: “Vettel's victory will hurt Hamilton”

According to the former pilot of Renault, the victory of the Ferrari driver a Melbourne, had an initial psychological impact on the 2018 World Cup.

In one of his editorials for BBC Sport, Jolyon Palmer, in fact he stated that the circumstances in which he lost with Sebastian Vettel in the Australian Grand Prix, could have a big impact on the driver of the Mercedes:

Il quattro volte campione del mondo aveva mantenuto la prima piazza per buona parte della gara. Mercedes aveva dichiarato a fine gara, che un errore di calcolo sulla velocità con cui Hamilton poteva andare sotto regime di Virtual Safety Car, aveva permesso a Vettel di fare il passo in avanti.

“Se Hamilton avesse saputo  prima che il divario con Vettel era troppo grande, allora avrebbe potuto essere in grado di spingere forte e chiudere un po’ prima. Ma è stata proprio la Virtual Safety Car, a decidere questa gara”.

Palmer ha ribadito che questa gara sarà cruciale per la rivalità tra Mercedes e Ferrari:

“For Vettel and Ferrari, this victory has given a boost of energy for the rest of the season. Mercedes will learn from this defeat, Hamilton will be motivated to claim the Melbourne race. After the initial disappointment in Australia, he still seemed positive, declaring that he wanted to take that episode as an experience with the team so that it doesn't happen in the future.".

However, the former driver added that Lewis Hamilton he could also be reassured by the knowledge that over the weekend, Mercedes was much faster than Ferrari.
