F1 | Norbert Haug: “The fight between Vettel and Leclerc in Hungary was senseless”
"They lost important tenths: Charles must take some responsibility for his actions on the track," he added
One of the hottest phases of a race that was certainly not as spectacular as that of Budapest concerned the moment in which Vettel and Leclerc found themselves on the track with different strategies. Absolutely faster than his teammate due to more suitable tires at the time, the German did not immediately find it easier to overtake his teammate. A situation that probably caused both of us to lose important time. Norbert Haug, former vice president of Mercedes spoke about this situation on Sky Sports.
“I saw the senseless fight between Leclerc and Vettel in Hungary – Haug said. Every tenth of a second that your teammate takes away from you when you are in sixth/seventh place, with a different strategy, is very important. The team leader must think tactically and clearly say what is happening on the track. If you are racing for the win, then there is more room for manoeuvre, but if you are fighting for a few points, every position gained is important, and two teammates should not take tenths away from each other. Leclerc should take responsibility for his actions on the track: in that case it was he, a young and acclaimed superstar of extreme talent who behaved less than ideally."
Haug also spoke about Sebastian Vettel's future: “He had the dream of becoming world champion with Ferrari, but he will remain that way. It would be interesting if he went to Aston Martin, the way Racing Point is moving is positive, everything is moving in the right direction, they are really the second force behind Mercedes. I don't know exactly what Sebastian is thinking, but I hope it continues."
