F1 | Newey: “The introduction of turbo engines? A commercial stunt”
The British engineer expressed his doubts about the introduction of hybrid technology in Formula One
Speaking about the introduction of hybrid technology, which occurred in Formula One in 2014, Adrian Newey has no doubts: the return of turbo engines to the premier class of motorsport was a purely commercial idea.
In an interview given to the Sky Sports UK broadcaster, the British engineer working for Red Bull explained his thoughts regarding the power unit: “For me it's just a question of marketing. Mine is an opinion that may raise criticism, ma these engines give some automakers the ability to develop their production cars. If this note of mine were confirmed, then in the next five years these houses would not be available rivals".
Newey also spoke about the regulatory changes that will come into force this year: “Whenever there are new rules, some teams interpret the regulations better than others. Generally, top teams, which are equipped with greater resources, are more advantaged".
"For the undersigned – continued Newey – Formula One must represent the battle on the track between drivers coupled with the creativity of the engineers".
