F1 | Newey: “Flattered by interest from so many teams, but Aston Martin was the ideal choice”

F1 Newey Aston Martin – Adrian Newey, returning to talk about the choices made for the medium and long term, reiterated his total confidence in Lawrence Stroll's project for the Aston Martin team, underlining how the English brand represents the ideal choice for the final phase of his career in Formula 1.

Red Bull's former technical chief expressed satisfaction with the interest shown in him by McLaren, Ferrari and Williams, but stressed that Aston Martin was able to offer a "comprehensive" plan, both financially and structurally.

This is an important adventure, which will start next year, and which Newey intends to tackle by dedicating 100% of his energy. Let us remember that the Englishman has signed a high-profile contract, which will come into effect next April, and will work alongside Enrico Cardile as a “super-consultant” in the design of the car for the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Newey, great confidence in Aston Martin's future

“I was very flattered by the number of teams that expressed interest in me. I had conversations with some of them, but not all of them. In the end, the choice became obvious and natural, for the same reasons I explained in the conference. Towards the end of April, I knew it was time to take a different path. I spent a lot of time with my wife Mandy, discussing what to do next: go on a sailing trip around the world? Take on a new project? In the end, I realized that I was lucky enough to realize the dream I had had since I was a child, 10 or 12, when I just wanted to be a designer in the racing world, without even knowing the word 'engineer'.”
