Among the innovations that could characterize the new season is also the possibility of a sprint race on Saturday. A solution which, as reported by the British portal RaceFans, will be examined on Thursday by vote during the F1 Commission meeting. The venues chosen to host this event would be three of the fastest tracks in the world championship calendar: Montreal, Monza and Interlagos.

If this hypothesis were to turn into reality, and therefore have white smoke, the qualifications would be brought forward to Friday to outline the starting grid for the race on Saturday. The classification of the latter would then shape the time classification in view of the traditional race on Sunday.

The sprint races would last about an hour, a time frame similar to that of the qualifications, although at the moment it has not been established whether these events will be included in the normal counting of points at world championship level. Among the points of discussion is also the tire strategy to be used during this atypical weekend. Questions that will be resolved on Thursday, where Formula 1 will decide whether or not to follow this path.
