F1 | Montezemolo: “Schumacher? The only disappointment he gave me was seeing him in Mercedes."

Speaking of Michael Schumacher, thanks to which Ferrari opened its golden era by winning five consecutive drivers' titles between 2000 and 2004, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has no doubts. The only displeasure that the German gave to the then president of Prancing Horse was that of returning to Formula One with Mercedes in 2010, after having had the possibility of a sensational return to red - which was then skipped - a few months earlier following the Massa's accident in qualifying for the 2009 Hungarian GP.

"We were very close to returning, I remember well when he came to my office after what happened to Massa and I fought to convince him to get back behind the wheel – Montezemolo recalled to La Gazzetta dello Sport -. He told me: 'President, I can't say no to you‘, then unfortunately he got hurt and the doctor didn't allow him to run".

Montezemolo then added: “He came back with Mercedes and it hurt when he drove a red Mercedes GT in Stuttgart, the same color he wore for ten years. I'm sad knowing his situation, but Schumi has always been a fighter, one who never gives up".
