F1 | Montezemolo: “Ferrari management made several mistakes”

Ferrari's dark period seems to have deeper roots. Starting from the arrival of the hybrid in Formula 1 in 2014, technology that has put the Italian Scuderia in great difficulty up until today, with an unwatchable, slow and not at all efficient car despite being driven by two very strong drivers. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, historic president of the Rossa, has spoken again after his admission a few weeks ago, when he said he had underestimated the transition to hybrid in Formula 1. This time, in addition to reiterating what was written before, the former Ferrari number one also pointed the finger at the management of the Maranello team from 2015 onwards.

“We underestimated the complexity of the new type of engines – reiterated Montezemolo a RTL. Here in Italy there was no hybrid culture like in Germany. But the people who managed Ferrari subsequently had neither experience nor expertise in Formula 1: they thought they could win quickly with a snap of the fingers. One of the biggest mistakes was letting James Allison go. I'm talking about him, but I could mention other names. Then they made the mistake of moving excellent engineers from road car production to Formula 1, but it takes completely different skills in this field. Making the workforce as Italian as possible? Enzo always told me that if the best driver lives in Guatemala, you have to take him, and the same goes for the engineers. We need to hire the best people to improve performance, and these profiles can therefore help young talents to grow."
