F1 | Michelin snubs Formula 1: "It's a category that doesn't interest us"

La Michelin categorically excludes a possible return to Formula 1. The tire manufacturing company, which has been the sole supplier in Formula E, directly from Hong Kong, home of the first two seasonal events of the automotive series dedicated to electric cars, has clarified its future plans, discarding the hypothesis of a return to F1: “We will not participate in a category in which there are no challenges for us and in which we cannot transfer our technologies to road cars"- said Pascal Couasnon, director of Michelin Motorsport, a Speed Week. “In Formula 1 it's not even possible to use 18-inch tyres; the tires can only be used for short distances, so we don't care".

Michelin worked in Formula 1 in two different periods: from 1977 to 1984 and, secondly, from 2001 to 2006. The numbers tell of 215 GPs contested, 102 victories and 111 pole positions. The latest success corresponds to the last season in Formula 1 (2006), when the pairing Alonso-Renault, driven by French tyres, won the drivers' and constructors' championships.
