F1 | Mercedes, Wolff on Leclerc's season at Ferrari: "He's doing what we expected from him"

In a long interview given to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', Toto Wolff spoke about Charles Leclerc's season at Ferrari, underlining how the Monegasque is doing exactly what was expected of him.

Despite some small blunders (Baku above all. ed.), Charles is showing speed and talent, aspects that are giving him a prominent place within the Scuderia Ferrari. As for Binotto, however, Wolff admitted that the Italian-Swiss' first season in Maranello in the role of Team Principal was complex, especially in terms of media pressure.

Ferrari's performance, in fact, was not in line with expectations at the beginning of the year, a factor that put its management in a bad light. Despite this, however, the former Technical Director has the technical skills and strength to get out of this situation.

“Leclerc is doing exactly what we expected from him,” said Toto Wolff. “He put out some great performances, but at the same time he made some mistakes. He's a good person, he fits in well with the team and he's not a political man. We are talking about an extremely humble boy. I really appreciate him for these skills."

On Mattia Binotto's first season as Team Principal he added: “Mattia is very gifted. It's been a tough first year, but smooth seas don't make you a good sailor. Arrivabene was a very capable person in the marketing sector, I learned things from him that I didn't know, while I am very good friends with Domenicali. We go skiing together, even though in 2013 he protested against us for the Pirelli test. Sometimes I remind him."

Finally, conclusion on Mattiacci: “He didn't have a chance to show his skills, but he understood the car business quite well. He represented the good of Ferrari."
