F1 | Mercedes, Wolff ready to manage the duel between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas
"We will not allow their relationship to deteriorate to the point where it causes damage to the team," the Austrian said
Interviewed about the duel at Mercedes for the top of the championship (Bottas leads the standings over Hamilton by just one point. Ed.), Toto Wolff underlined how Mercedes will try to manage the relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas as best as possible.
Despite the freedom granted to the drivers during the Baku round, with Hamilton left free to attack at the end of the races, Wolff highlighted how the team will not allow the internal relationships within the team to deteriorate, given that an evolution of this type would create damage to the harmony of the group and to the performance of the team itself.
“Hamilton and Bottas get along well and don't play dirty,” said Toto Wolff after the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix. “We are happy about this, but we also know that relationships can deteriorate quickly when there are great ambitions.
“We want them to be aggressive on the track, but we also know how important respect is,” continued the Austrian. “We will not allow their relationship to deteriorate to the point where it causes harm to the team.”
