F1 | Mercedes, Wolff: “Our organization is strong and does not depend on just one person”

The strength of the dominant Mercedes of the hybrid era lies in its organization. The team principal Toto wolff explained how the Brackley stable, over the years, has managed to build such a solid base as to be able to compensate for the physiological turnover of personnel. A clear example, in this regard, was the farewell of the technical director Paddy lowe who, at the end of the 2016 World Championship, after leading Mercedes to success for three years in a row, gave way to James allison: a simple variation of the addends, which had no influence on the final result, i.e. the continuation of the hegemony of the Star.

These words Wolff ad Motorsport: “A Formula 1 team is a dynamic structure due to the regulatory changes and challenges it faces. You can't freeze an organization just because you're successful. You have to look to the next generation of leaders, you have to adapt to new challenges. This type of organization must be able to grow the new generation of engineers, mechanics and managers. It can't depend on one person, not on Paddy, not on James, not on me or on anyone else. We have a very solid base made up of people who do an incredible job and who deserve greater visibility and better media exposure given how they work. Precisely for this reason, when a prominent name leaves the team, this is goodbye it won't affect the organization because the base is really strong".
