F1 | Mercedes, Wolff: “Hamilton and Russell will form a strong couple”

Mercedes has finally announced the driver who will join Lewis Hamilton next season: George Russell. Thus, after his apprenticeship at Williams, the Englishman was promoted to official driver of the Star. Brackley TP Toto Wolff discussed Russell's choice, admitting that the team's most important challenge will be to help this young talent grow alongside a top-level driver like Hamilton.

"We are very happy to confirm that George will have the opportunity to take the next step in his career and join Mercedes – declared Wolff – He has won in every category and the last three seasons with Williams have given us a taste of what the future could hold for him in F1. Our challenge will be to help him learn in our environment and alongside Lewis, the greatest F1 driver of all time. I'm confident that as their relationship grows, they will make a strong couple on and off the track for years to come. It's a weight off our shoulders to have the plans for 2022 clear and announced, but now our attention returns to the final nine races of this season and putting everything into the challenge for this year's titles".
