F1 | Mercedes W11, Wolff has no doubts: “2020 will be a challenging year”

Interviewed by the press during the presentation of the new Mercedes W11, the car with which Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will face the next Formula 1 world championship, Toto Wolff preferred not to set objectives for 2020, underlining the many difficulties linked to carrying out the next season.

Due to the 2021 regulations, Mercedes and other teams will be forced to "split" their resources, which could help some teams catch up. A complicated situation, but one that Mercedes obviously intends to overcome with clarity and will.

“The next championship will be particularly challenging”, said Toto Wolff. “Some teams will focus on 2020, while others will begin to shift their resources to the aerodynamic revolution expected for the 2021 season. Striking a balance will be important, although not easy. Our ambition is clear: we want to be competitive in both 2020 and 2021. It's a great challenge, probably the biggest, and we like it."

“The atmosphere is calm and we are all very focused,” continued the Austrian. “We all know there is work to be done and we want to do our best to meet our expectations. We are working hard to prepare as best we can. We don't feel any entitlement to the victories, but we know we have to fight hard. It's been our mentality from the beginning and we want to continue on this path."
