Excellent Friday from Valtteri Bottas, who closed the first day of free practice with the best performance. The Finn, who seems to have found new life after the announcement of his farewell to Mercedes, only set the third best time in the inaugural session, just a few thousandths behind an incredible Pierre Gasly, second. As night fell, however, Bottas began to dictate the pace, giving two tenths to the Frenchman from AlphaTauri, while the two title contenders remained in third and fourth position. Excellent conditions for Bottas, fresh from two consecutive pole positions.

"We started the weekend very well with the set-up. The balance was good, I only had to make some small adjustments for FP2 – said the Finn – it's an encouraging start on a new track, the team has done a great job of preparing. We are not far from the ideal performance, obviously there is still work to be done and improvements to be made on the riding too, something you can't find immediately with just two sessions. We will continue to work, it is difficult to draw conclusions today, it is only free practice, but the feeling is positive and promising for the rest of the weekend".
