F1 | Mercedes, Toto Wolff: “I don't rule out Lewis racing for Ferrari one day”

Lewis Hamilton, Toto Wolff and Mercedes. In the middle, the Red from Maranello. A story, that of feeling between the four-time world champion and Ferrari, which has been holding the stage in the back of the paddock for some time now. The same thing is writing a new chapter Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, who spoke of a possible future away from the Silver Arrows for the British driver.

“At the end of 2020 Lewis will have been here (at Mercedes, ed.) for a total of eight years – Wolff told Mundo Deportivo -. That's a long time and he could have another contract. Although we want him to stay forever, until 2030”. When asked about a possible contract with Ferrari, Wolff replies: “In F1 everything is possible. You have never heard of a driver who never dreamed of being a world champion with Ferrari. I have a lot of respect for them and the only thing I can say is that Hamilton is part of the Mercedes family, although I don't rule out this possibility after 2020."

In the meantime there are rumors of contacts with other riders, but Wolff glosses over this: “When you are in a relationship, you always have to give everything. If you start something with another person, your marriage will collapse. And my marriage on the track is with Lewis and Bottas and not with the others. We want to perform at our best."

The Mercedes team principal nevertheless expressed appreciation for Esteban Ocon (Force India): “I have known Esteban for a long time and every year he promptly responds to the great expectations we have of him. It's impressive how he's grown."

Finally, words of appreciation also for Carlos Sainz (Renault): “Carlos is a very special boy, very intelligent, with the right values, with the right family and he is a very fast driver. It will be nice to compare him to Nico Hulkenberg: if he performs well he will be on the radar of all the teams. I have always gotten along well with Carlos and his father, we have always maintained an excellent private relationship. We also talked about the possibility of being in Mercedes, but he was a Red Bull driver and there was no possibility."

Pending future developments, Lewis Hamilton will continue to fight for the title with Mercedes. Also because a certain Sebastian Vettel is currently behind the wheel of Ferrari.
