F1 | Mercedes, Hamilton's super race: "It was a surprise, we expected big difficulties"

Another masterful race from Lewis Hamilton, who also wins the Mexican Grand Prix, success number 83 of his incredible career, thus bringing himself just four points away from sixth in the world championship. The Briton's race was great: starting third, he battled Vettel and Verstappen, also damaging the surface and managing the Hard tires very well, making them last for 47 laps and taking advantage of some uncertainty in Ferrari's pits, especially with Leclerc. What to say? A perfect Sunday for the English champion.

“Today was a surprise – Hamilton admitted. We were in the thick of the fight and we expected big difficulties this weekend. We thought we would be behind, but we kept our heads down, kept working hard and in the end the result came. In the first few corners there was chaos, I was pushed onto the grass at the start and then Max hit me. It wasn't easy to recover, my bottom got damaged, so the rear was moving a lot, I had to change my way of riding. I don't know how I did it, but I did it! The guys did a fantastic job with the strategy: we stopped very early, I was thinking too much to be honest, but in the end it all worked out. I wanted to get this victory for the fans: during the drivers parade they supported me a lot, so I really wanted to put in a good performance."
