F1 | Mercedes, Lauda: “Bahrain GP? We could have won it."

In Niki Lauda's opinion, Mercedes could have triumphed in Bahrain, rather than just getting a second and fastest time with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. For the non-executive president of the Stella team, the Brackley team's pursuit of victory was slowed down by some factors which inevitably affected the final result. Despite this, Lauda admitted the merits of Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari who achieved their second victory in 2017 after the triumph in Australia.

"There were several things that stopped us from achieving more – Lauda's thoughts – Lewis had to serve a five-second penalty during the stop and Valtteri instead had too much pressure in his tyres.  But there is no discussion about the winner. Vettel was the best and Ferrari had the best strategy. This championship is really exciting".
