Lewis Hamilton speaks as if he had already renewed with Mercedes

F1 | Mercedes, Hamilton: “The eighth title is huge, it's our goal”

Officially still without a contract for 2021, but in fact Lewis Hamilton has never strayed even a little from his Mercedes. In a long interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport the English driver addressed various topics, including his social commitment and the fight against discrimination, his admiration for Ali, Mandela, Senna, his friendship with the late Niki Lauda and with Toto Wolff himself ("I'd say we complement each other. And that we are true friends.").

The Englishman also spoke about his growth as a driver, explaining that you never stop learning, because the work with the engineers and the understanding of the single-seater must be added to the pure talent, in a path of continuous and constant growth.

Lewis then admitted that he is definitely thinking about his eighth world championship, a number that scares him just by saying it, the objective (and one step away) with which he works together with the team, a declared objective, which is worth more than a confirmation on a renewal with Brackley now imminent:

“The eighth title is a huge thing, I can hardly even pronounce the number, but it will be the thing everyone will talk about in 2021 and the goal on which I will focus my efforts together with the incredible group of people I have worked with until now - Hamilton's words to Rosea - We have a very tough season ahead of us, I assure you, with Red Bull proving to be incredibly strong in the final races of last championship. We continued to use the maximum power of our engines, but they were still faster. We will have to work a lot. Staying at the top is always difficult. When you are approaching the top, it is possible to make great progress, but when you are already at the top the progress is smaller and smaller, and sometimes steps forward are followed by steps back. Being able to continuously improve is a great feat."
