F1 | Mercedes, Hamilton: “I accepted the team's decision to give the position back to Bottas”

Lewis Hamilton finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in fourth place. The Englishman, who benefited from the team orders given from the Mercedes pit wall to Valtteri Bottas, he gave third position back near the finish line to his teammate having failed to overtake Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari.

Now Hamilton has slipped to 14 points behind world championship leader Sebastian Vettel, who has extended his lead over his direct rival thanks to today's victory.

On the episode that saw him protagonist with Bottas, Hamilton declared: “I am a man of my word, I accepted the team's decision even if it penalized me for the championship. I hope not to lose the title for these points. The slowdown I had to make was difficult to do, as I was afraid that Verstappen would take away my position".

During the race the three-time world champion had to deal with a problem with the radio, which prevented him from always being in contact with his engineer: “I had a good pace, but I couldn't ask about the condition of my tires, whether they were still in condition or not. If I had stayed out another five or ten laps we would have tried to attack and perhaps overtake the Ferraris. Instead I found myself behind Valtteri, losing a lot of time. Then he let me go, but I couldn't overtake Raikkonen and I tried to do the right thing by giving him back the position".
