F1 | Mercedes, Hamilton: “There is work to do, nice to see Ferrari and Red Bull so close”

Lewis Hamilton finished the first day of testing for the Chinese Grand Prix in fourth position. The English driver is seven tenths behind his teammate Bottas, Friday's leader, a sign that there is actually something to fix on his W10, as admitted by himself in the statements we report below.

“It was a relatively calm day- Hamilton said. We completed our program despite it being very cold, which makes the tires difficult to manage and we also struggled with the car a bit, so there is some work to do, particularly on my side as Valtteri looked much more at ease. Tonight we will work hard to find the solution, hoping to come back stronger tomorrow: the car has the pace to finish in front, we just need to find the right set-up, but it's nice to see how close Ferrari and Red Bull are. As we expected, the Reds seem even faster on the straights, but overall all the top teams are there and I expect the same tomorrow."
