F1 | Mercedes, Bottas: “I couldn't do more with the package we had today”

Valtteri Bottas ends his 2020 by taking second place in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, behind Max Verstappen's winning Red Bull. The Finn never managed to worry the Dutchman, who dominated the race from start to finish, and had to settle for second place which allowed him to maintain the same place in the Drivers' World Championship.

The Mercedes standard bearer, commenting on what happened on the track, said: “Red Bull was too fast today, we thought our pace was up to par but instead they were able to control the race. Max took a nice lead when he needed it, I did what I could but I couldn't keep up. I think it was a solid race from me, I didn't make any mistakes and I couldn't do more with the package we had today. At least I finished ahead of my teammate, it's been a while since I've been on the podium so it's nice to be able to enjoy this moment even if there won't be any champagne".

Bottas then, speaking about how he will fill his time in the coming weeks, added: “I still have some commitments next week, but I will certainly be able to enjoy Christmas. I hope to be able to see my family, because I haven't seen them for a long time. Then I will reset everything quickly, I will try to train to start from scratch and do even better".

Final analysis on the team: “The team has been fantastic this year. I am very proud to have achieved the first two positions in the drivers' championship, it has been a fantastic season: from every member of the team, both on the track and in the factory. I am grateful to be part of this team".
