F1 | Mehri "turns off" Verstappen: "The comparison with Senna is exaggerated"
The Spaniard also teases Vettel, Raikkonen and Mercedes
The former F1 driver Roberto Merhi he wanted to "calm down" all thatenthusiasm and that surprise that revolves around Max Verstappen and to his great talent, highlighted above all in the season just ended: according to the Spaniard, in fact, Verstappen would be considered a newSenna, but according to him this comparison turns out quite a bit exaggerated. “Max was in the right place at the right time”, Mehri told the Spanish sports daily AS. “There is no doubt that he is an excellent driver, but it is also true that everything came directly to him in his hands”, he commented speaking of the Dutchman's "luck" in driving and in his short career.
Merhi thinks Verstappen has also achieved a number of benefits thanks to infringements di regulation, on the track, which were not correctly punished or led to minimal consequences compared to what happened: “I don't know if it was because he is so young or because his riding is spectacular”, the Spaniard tried to justify himself by seeking an explanation for the fact.
Merhi, who is now an amateur motorist and cyclist, also spoke about the somewhat delicate year Sebastian Hag in Ferrari: “I don't know if it was him who simply had a bad year, or Raikkonen who had a good year... or maybe a bit of both“, commented the Spaniard.
Finally, Merhi also criticized the Mercedes, for trying to take the fight between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg off the track: “Hamilton was just doing what he had to do, and even though Nico was his teammate, he was ultimately playing his last cards to become champion”, he said. “I would have done the same or worse, added Merhi.
