F1 | McLaren, Zak Brown: “A lot will happen between 2020 and 2021”

McLaren's season was extraordinary! The Woking team has literally risen again after the disastrous years with Honda thanks to the internal reshuffle wanted by Zak Brown, head of the team, who in a few months between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 turned the situation around. New, young and talented drivers, the right people in the right place and a car that is finally competitive, especially thanks to the developments during the world championship. Fourth place in constructors is just a launching pad, it certainly cannot be a goal, and the hope of seeing McLaren consistently with podiums and victories is high, but it will still take some time.

“A lot will happen between 2020 and 2021 – Zak Brown said. Next season the rules won't change much, so our goal will be to progressively improve: head down and pedal, because there are still many things to work on. We started 2019 1.5 seconds from pole, while at the end of the year we were eight tenths off, so there is still a big gap to close. In two years, however, there will be the biggest upheaval in recent history in Formula 1, I think it will be exciting, not only for us, but for all those who follow this sport. The arrival of the budget cap will help us, but it will not be effective before 2022-2023. We at McLaren are ready: as we get closer to the leading teams it will be increasingly difficult! It's been a long 2019, but in a short time we've made some changes to our racing department, starting on the technical side with James Key, and we're happy with how hard the team worked to put together the 2020 car. Then there's it's Andrea Stella, who leads the team every race weekend, and obviously Andreas Seidl, the new team principal, who has done an exceptional job, bringing the desire to win into the garage!”.
