F1 | McLaren amazed by the potential of the Renault power unit

In an interview given to the microphones of "L'Equipe", Eric Boullier spoke about the first results on the Renault power unit bench, underlining how, compared to last season, there was an increase in performance equal to one second. A huge gap if we consider today's development and the minimum margins of movement within the technical regulation. Compared to the Honda era, therefore, McLaren expects a completely different response from the track, so much so that the French Manager does not want to settle for a supporting role behind Red Bull, Force India and Renault.

Here are the words of Eric Boullier: “AWe have already tested the new unit on the bench and know well what we are up against. We think we have gained a second compared to last season. In the last three seasons we haven't done the development we wanted: due to the many technical problems, in fact, we are unable to collect real data on brakes, consumption, component cooling and tire degradation. Thanks to Renault and its engine, we will be able to go back to focusing exclusively on the car, returning to the work we did a few years ago."
