F1 | McLaren, Seidl on the challenge to Ferrari: "Important on the sporting side, not on the corporate side"
For Woking TP there is no economic impact if the team finishes third or fourth in the constructors' championship
The 2021 season is not only in store for us to fight for the drivers' and constructors' championship but also for the bottom step of the championship between McLaren and Ferrari. With five races to go until the end of the season, Woking is ahead of Maranello by 3,5 points, even if the Cavallino has given better sensations in recent races than the English single-seater. McLaren TP Andreas Seidl spoke out about the fight for third place, underlining how this is a purely sporting battle and not an economic one.
In fact, for McLaren, from a financial point of view, it would have no impact on finishing the championship third or fourth.
"For me and the team, third place is simply important from a sporting point of view – declared Seidl, quoted by Motorsport-magazin – We get up in the morning because we want to challenge and defeat our opponents. This is what we have in mind when we enter a race weekend. One of the questions we often get is what third place looks like in terms of McLaren's business plan. Whether we finish in third or fourth place has no bearing on this".
Then speaking about Ferrari he said: “What we have seen in the last races in Zandvoort, Monza, Russia and Turkey is that they have their weaknesses and their strengths. Both depend on the characteristics of the track, the conditions or the choice of tires. There will be tracks that are more suitable for us or more suitable for Ferrari. We just have to do our best. This puts us in a position to fight them in the last race in Abu Dhabi".
