F1 | McLaren, Sainz: “We are really happy with P2”

He came one step away from the first historic victory of his career, but he can still be satisfied with the performance he provided today in Monza. Carlos Sainz in fact finished the Monza Grand Prix in second place, finishing just four tenths behind winner Pierre Gasly's Alpha Tauri.

Sainz thus ends in the best possible way, even if the final cherry was missing, a weekend that saw him as the absolute protagonist since yesterday where he took the third fastest time in qualifying behind the Mercedes of poleman Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

The Spaniard, who will say goodbye to McLaren at the end of the year to take Sebastian Vettel's place at Ferrari, commenting on today's race said: “I'm half disappointed, even though we couldn't imagine being able to fight for first place.
