Carlos Sainz is without a doubt the cover driver for this Saturday in Monza. In fact, the Spaniard was the protagonist of an excellent qualifying which saw him finish in third place, behind the two unreachable Mercedes of poleman Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

The Spaniard, who will say goodbye to McLaren at the end of the year to join Ferrari where he will take Sebastian Vettel's place, commenting on the outcome of the official tests for the Italian Grand Prix said: “On the last lap I was about to screw up and was losing the car at Lesmo 1, but then I tried at Ascari and Parabolica. The lap didn't start very well, so I needed to aggressively take some corners. I really tried. I risked a lot, but it was worth it".

Sainz then added: “I felt very good from the start of qualifying. I managed to get through Q1 with just one set of tires and with a very strong lap. From there I tried to put a 1'19.6 on the board, which I knew would give me a top five position".
