F1 | McLaren, Sainz: “Frustrating start to the championship, too many unfortunate events”

McLaren travels to Baku with the intention of improving on the disappointing weekend in China, with the two cars practically out of action after the first lap due to the accident with Kvyat's Toro Rosso. Sainz had a very unlucky start to the season, while Norris, after a good start to the championship, had to withdraw during the Asian race.

“Baku is one of my favorite circuits, it's an unpredictable track and that's what makes it so interesting – Sainz said. All the drivers approach this race with anxiety, because they know there could be opportunities to achieve something special. Last year I had a good race, finishing in fifth position. My ambition is always to improve on every track and in every season, so I hope to have a clean and smooth race. The start of the championship was frustrating, too many things happened outside of my control, but this is also part of racing. I am determined to continue pushing, always bringing a lot of patience. Hard work and a positive attitude always pay off in the long run.”

“Last year I had a pretty interesting weekend in Baku in Formula 2 – admits Norris – but I'm looking forward to going down the long straight in a Formula 1 car. It's a nice track and I hope we can have a better race than in China, we need more luck to get some points. This circuit is less forgiving than Australia, but small mistakes can be punished harshly, so my aim is to avoid them. I want to fight for the whole race."
