F1 | McLaren, Sainz and Norris once again in the front row behind top teams

Carlos Sainz: "An excellent job, we will try to finish the race on a high note"

F1 | McLaren, Sainz and Norris once again in the front row behind top teams

McLaren reconfirmed its strength during Saturday at COTA, where rising star Lando Norris shone, placing P3 in the third free practice session and P1 at the end of Q1.

A good result, however, for him and Carlos Sainz, who reached their hundredth Grand Prix, who will start tomorrow, once again, behind the top teams, once again conquering the mid-table pole position.

"It was a great one! We managed to extract the absolute maximum from the car. I did two very good laps in Q3, which means I will start behind the top guys in P7. Tomorrow I expect a challenging day because the wind is changing again compared to yesterday, and this can make our race more complicated” declared the Spaniard, who will once again start seventh, hoping, this time, to make a good start.

"So, heads down, we'll work tonight and try to finish the race on a high note. Congratulations again to the whole team. Both cars above mid-table are always a good sign."

Sainz, like Norris, will start the race on Soft tyres. The English driver certainly shone yesterday, bringing McLaren back to positions that the team had unfortunately not been in for quite some time.

"It was a decent job in Q1 and Q2 – Lando commented instead – I just had some traffic in my Q1, I did one lap, which meant I had to use a second set of tyres, and I only had one for Q3."

“I usually always improve on the second attempt and so in Q3, when I only had one chance, I struggled a bit more, because everyone in front of me had two sets of new tyres. P7 for Carlos and P8 for me is the best result we could have achieved todayi ".
