F1 | McLaren, Ricciardo on Norris: “It's always interesting to challenge a young team mate”

Daniel Ricciardo is curious to challenge another young talent with the same car. The Australian at McLaren will team up with Lando Norris, another terrible guy, having already shared the garage with Max Verstappen at Red Bull and Esteban Ocon at Renault.

Ricciardo has always gotten along with his teammates and is convinced that cohabitation with a younger rival is an important incentive to go faster. Young people learn quickly and force you to raise the bar, to the benefit of personal growth. The former Red Bull and Renault driver embraces the new challenge at McLaren with some enthusiasm.

“I've always had fun and I've always had good relationships with my teammates – said Daniel Ricciardo to the official Formula 1 website – The team mate is your first rival; he is the pilot the ones you want to beat the most, because it represents the comparison with the same cars. Ocon for example è a hungry, growing young man. In some ways he is a bit similar to Verstappen. Running with these guys made me understand what the younger generations are like. They learn quickly; if I go out on the track and take a corner at full throttle, in the next session or sometimes in the next lap they will do the same too. So far it's always gone well for me and I like challenges, it's good to be kept on your toes by a fast teammate who pushes you to improve."
