F1 | McLaren, Renault will be the new supplier. Will Alonso also stay in 2018?
The Spaniard: "It's a very important week"
Yesterday's meeting between Zack Brown and Cyril Abiteboul would have sanctioned a definitive agreement between McLaren and Renault for the 2018 season. After the numerous reliability problems between Spa and Monza itself, McLaren would have chosen to leave Honda, giving up a very important budget.
According to what was declared by AS, the Renault and McLaren agreement would provide for the supply of the power units for the 2018 championship and the guarantee of receiving all the updates that the French engine manufacturer will bring to the track next season. This news also reopens the doors of Fernando Alonso to Woking, given that the Spaniard would have considered staying at McLaren only with a change of engine engineer.
Here are the words of Fernando Alonso: “We know what the Renault engine can do as Red Bull has achieved several podiums during this championship. It's a good engine. McLaren has an important history, many positive numbers, and I want to win together with them. In this sense it is a very important week for 2018 and we hope to have some news before the Singapore Grand Prix."
