F1 | McLaren, Norris: “I can't wait to get back in the car”

A positive 2019 to say the least brought serenity to the house McLaren, but at the same time it has inevitably raised expectations for 2020. Preaching calm is the watchword of the Woking team, as the Team Principal has reiterated on several occasions, Andrea Seidl.

Telling you about his desire to get back in the car to start the new season is Lando Norris, in an interview given to the team's official website. “Last year I was excited but also a lot more nervous: I had to deal with rules, strategies, ways of working. Now I know these aspects more. I feel more relaxed and not so nervous. Instead of wondering if I'm ready for the first race, this time I know I am and that's why I'm so eager to get back in the car,” he said.

"Formula 1 is a very complex sport. There are so many factors that impact performance and while you can study them, you can't fully understand them until you've experienced them. For example manage the tires, knowing when to push and when not to push, and how to respond to a rapidly evolving strategy. You have to think in perspective about all the races and this becomes easier with experience,” she continued.

Finally, a verdict on what to expect from the car: “This is the first year I've had a lot of input into the car. The MCL34 was designed in 2018, and while I rode in a few sessions that year, I didn't have much direct input. But, for 2020, much of the MCL35 it was determined by what Carlos [Sainz] and I asked.”
