F1 | McLaren, Norris: “The 2022 car is not that pleasant to drive”

The single-seaters of the regulatory revolution, the ground effect ones that will debut in 2022, would not be as satisfying and fun to drive for drivers as the current cars on the grid. The cry of alarm was raised by Lando Norris, who a Motorsport.com spoke about his feelings after testing the 2022 McLaren in the simulator.

The English driver, fourth in the world championship standings and who left the Russian GP with the regret of a victory thrown away, however specified that the new cars are only now taking shape, and that they will be subject to corrections along the way until the start of the next season.

“The 2022 single-seater, from what I could see in the simulator, is very different to drive compared to the current car and in a certain sense it is not as pleasant to drive as the MCL35M. However, I think it will be more or less like this for all the teams - Norris's words - Now it's really too early to have an idea, we just have to work hard and show up with a good car at the winter tests at the end of February. For now the only real car we have seen is the Silverstone prototype, ours is still only on paper and we won't see a real one for many months. It must be said that we make changes and corrections every week, I have seen some drawings but the car with all the modifications can change a lot in these months".
