F1 | McLaren, Lando Norris: “Home race for me and the team, we will make the fans proud”

Not one, but two will be the home grands prix for Lando Norris and McLaren: the Woking team, after a positive start in the 2020 season, is determined to do well on their home circuit too, despite there not being fans there. support them due to the anti-Covid-19 measures. McLaren enters the British Grand Prix as the third force in the world championship - just one point separates it from fourth in the standings, Racing Point - and with Lando Norris currently fourth in the drivers' standings. Some inconveniences stopped McLaren from collecting even more points even with Carlos Sainz, but the conditions are entirely positive.

"It's great to be back at Silverstone for not one, but two races! We had a chance to reset everything and reflect on what we've learned since the start of the season. I just want to get back to racing and continue with the progress for this grand prix. The track offers good overtaking opportunities. We know it will be tough, there is a lot of competition, but we have to focus on ourselves, work hard and continue on this positive wave” said Lando Norris, in his second year in Formula 1, who achieved the first podium of his career in Austria.

"My home race as a Formula 1 driver is always special, as if it were the first time – Lando continued – obviously, it's a shame not to have the public with us, but everyone's safety is more important. This weekend I'll be wearing a special helmet, which will reveal the winner of the competition I've launched to design my case for Silverstone, but you'll have to wait until you see me on track to see it".

Carlos Sainz, however, has not yet managed to shine in this first part of the season, and the Spaniard is determined to change things.

"Two races at Silverstone, the home grand prix for the team! After some ups and downs in the first three rounds of the season, we finally had some time to review our performances calmly: we analyzed our strengths, as well as our weaknesses, and now I just want to get back in the car to face new challenges on a new circuit. Even though we wasted important points, we had a positive start to the season, finishing every race in the points. The whole team is working hard and we have to continue like this. I feel regenerated, prepared and ready for these three consecutive grands prix” said Sainz, who will drive a Ferrari next year.

"Silverstone is one of my favorite tracks thanks to the fast pace and the many overtaking opportunities. Last year's edition was great, after many overtakings and attempts to defend my position I managed to reach the finish line sixth – Carlos recalled – Silverstone always offers interesting moments and obviously we will miss the support of the McLaren fans here. Even if they are not at the circuit, we will do everything to give our best and make them proud".
