F1 | McLaren, Lando Norris is third: “I didn't expect this result”

Lando Norris will start the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in third position. An incredible result for McLaren which in Friday's free practice had struggled, quite a bit, to set a time worthy of the top 10. Lando passes the cut for Q2 on soft tyre, the compound he will use at the start, but it is the attempt Q3 puts him immediately behind the two title contenders, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The Briton is on the medium tyre, while Max and Sergio Perez, fourth, will also be on the soft tyre. Lando's position is difficult and probably strategic, as he will find himself, a spectator, in the eye of the storm. The moment in which Lando gets out of the car to hug his mother, who rushed to Abu Dhabi to support her son in the last race of the season, is very cute.

"I'm very happy. I didn't expect to be in third place today, but the car looked promising before qualifying and I think I did a great lap on the second attempt in Q3. – explained the Briton – everything went well and I gave myself an excellent position for tomorrow's race and to score quite a few points. I'm excited, I can't wait to race, even if it will be hard, but we will give everything".
