F1 | McLaren rules out Alonso's return
"At the moment we are happy with our drivers"
di Jessica Cortellazzi17 June, 2019
McLaren CEO Zak Brown, denied the possibility of having Fernando Alonso, new winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, back as an official driver.
“Lando hasn't made a rookie mistake yet and Carlos is progressing here”, he told Auto Motor und Sport.
“So far, him (Sainz, ed.) he only has a one-year contract, but with us he can plan ahead."
However, Fernando Alonso did not rule out a return to Formula 1, but Brown played down the possibility:
“If he were to call and fortunately he hasn't yet, I would have to ask Chase Carey if I would be allowed to use three single-seaters. Both our drivers have long-term contracts and we are happy with them. At the moment we do not have a cockpit available."
