F1 | McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo is sixth: “A good start”

Daniel Ricciardo disputes the first qualifying of his career with McLaren colors and takes sixth position. Only a few thousandths allowed him to stay ahead of teammate Lando Norris, seventh. The two will start the Bahrain Grand Prix on red tyres. Next to Ricciardo, in the third row, a talent from Red Bull who could reveal surprises: Pierre Gasly.

"It's a relief to have completed my first qualifying with the team with a decent result. I think, after the tests, I was comfortable in the car, but more on the long runs – revealed the Australian driver – I felt, however, that I would have to improve for the Saturday sessions, and I still think so, but I have certainly made progress compared to two weeks ago and I am happy. We have a good base from which to build the race, I'm happy with how we approached qualifying as a team, they didn't put too much pressure on me. Yesterday we lacked a bit of pace, but the team understood that I was trying to understand the car.

"I don't want to jump through hoops, but this is certainly a good start and we can do well tomorrow – continued Daniel – there are different cars around us, I can't wait, and with Lando close by I hope we can score a lot of points for the team and start the season well".
