F1 | McLaren, Carlos Sainz: “Bad day”

The Spaniard fails to set significant times during Friday's free practice

F1 | McLaren, Carlos Sainz: “Bad day”

Bad day, at least according to the timesheets, for Carlos Sainz. The McLaren driver tested the track for just twelve laps in FP1, without setting a relevant time, which therefore leaves him in nineteenth position. In the afternoon, the Spaniard attempted to make up for the time lost in the first session, but only managed to place fourteenth, more than three seconds behind the day's leader Max Verstappen.

"It wasn't a good day – Sainz admitted – it's frustrating to lose time on the track, which is fundamental in FP1, especially with these complicated conditions, which will be there throughout the weekend due to the new asphalt. So, we had some catching up to do in the afternoon. My lap on the soft tires wasn't the best, the times improved significantly along with the track. The asphalt is still strange, but it adds the element of challenge, to see who can tame it. I'm excited for tomorrow".
