F1 | McLaren, Carlos Sainz achieves the best result in qualifying: "It's really great"

Fantastic performance in the wet for Carlos Sainz, who achieved his best result in qualifying. The Spaniard managed to take revenge on his teammate, after Norris' podium last week at the Red Bull Ring circuit. Even in the wet, McLaren managed to demonstrate all its potential and the progress made compared to last year. Sainz will therefore start on the second row, third behind Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen: it is the best qualifying position for the driver, who will race for Ferrari next year. Next to him, in the second row, Esteban Ocon, Renault.

"I'm very happy with the third time, especially with these conditions! Driving in the wet is an electrifying challenge and achieving my best qualifying position like this is really great” explained Sainz, visibly excited and happy as soon as he got off his MCL35.

"Towards the end of Q3 conditions worsened and it wasn't easy to decide where to take some risks. It was ultimately the most exciting, but also stressful qualifying session of my life. Starting from third place will give us a big advantage in the fight for points, but the road to the checkered flag is really long. The race will be in the dry so everything can change. We will prepare everything tonight and be ready!".
