The sporting director of the Woking team presents the Canadian GP: "It won't be an easy weekend for us"
Fresh from the difficult weekend in Monaco, the McLaren is ready to face the Canadian Grand Prix with the clear intention of moving again in the constructors' classification, which currently sees it -6 from fourth place held by Renault. The latest precedents, however, are not a source of optimism: in the three-year period with Honda, in fact, the English team in Montreal has never managed to obtain a points finish.
Interviewed by the official McLaren website, the sporting director Eric boullier thus presented the seventh round of the 2018 World Championship: “Canada has always been a great race in McLaren's history, and we all love racing here. Gilles-Villeneuve is a large street circuit, unlike the ones we see on the calendar today, and it's a really difficult challenge for engineers, mechanics and drivers. It is a notoriously unpredictable track and all the teams, given its demanding characteristics, work hard to set up their cars. But even after finding the setup, many things are left to chance: this is precisely why drivers, teams and fans are great supporters of this Grand Prix. We know it won't be an easy weekend for us, but it is important to concentrate on being in the most representative areas of the grid and be able to fight on Sunday. We've had a couple of difficult weekends, so hopefully in Montreal we can see further progress and bring home some points.".
