F1 | McLaren, Alonso: “We are preparing for a difficult weekend in Australia”
The Spaniard is pessimistic: "We will try to do our best at the weekend, as much as we can"
Fernando Alonso admitted that the McLaren is – unfortunately – preparing for a “difficult weekend” in Australia for the first appointment with the 2017 Formula 1 season.
Despite the progress made by Honda at the beginning of the year and the hopeful expectations for the championship, the problems recorded during the two weeks of test a Barcelona they brought the team to despair. One among all, as always on the front line, Fernando Alonso. The two-time world champion, in fact, spoke of the poor reliability and lack of power of his new Honda engine: "We will do the best we can with what we have, sure, and there's a lot of hard work within the team, but the lack of time gives us few options to deal with big changes”, he said, as reported by Motorsport.com.
"The first step will be to work on reliability, before we can make any assumptions or predictions about performance, and we will try to do our best over the weekend as much as we can." continued Alonso, now pessimistic about the first GP of the season. The minimum objective, in addition to finishing the race with the checkered flag, is to make the most of the Australian race to be able to test components or try to improve the car.
