F1 | McLaren, Alonso: "50 hp is not enough to fight with the top"

At the end of the last Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2017 Formula One world championship, Fernando Alonso underlined the enormous "deficit" of the Honda power unit compared to Ferrari, Mercedes and Renault. According to the two-time World Champion, Honda should gain more than 50 hp to be able to compete on an equal footing with its competitors. A huge gap if we consider the small gaps we find in the center of the group. The goal of the Japanese engine manufacturer is to close the gap before the end of this season, also taking advantage of the abolition of the coin system, but realistically we could only see a competitive power unit in 2018.

Here are the words of Fernando Alonso: “We have several weak points to work on and I don't think 50 hp is enough to fight with those in front of us. We need to improve in terms of performance, but above all in terms of reliability. We could have scored a few points during this start to the season, but more often than not we were forced to stop the car. We hope to improve quickly."
