F1 | Mazepin still hits the wall in free practice at Imola
"You're making progress, even if the feeling isn't 100% yet," said the Russian
Difficulties continue for Nikita Mazepin in the free practice sessions valid for the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the second round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. After the impact with the barriers in the morning's FP1, the Russian was not never managed to find the right feeling with the VF21, an aspect that often led him to make blocks and long shots. A situation that is certainly not simple, also from a performance point of view, which the team will have to try to analyze in view of the sessions scheduled for tomorrow.
“I think all in all we had a positive day,” the Russian said. “We've learned quite a few new things about the car and I think it's been some progress with the team in terms of understanding, even if we're still not at the level we want. I did some good laps in FP1, including the qualifying simulation, and I'm happy with that. Then I made a mistake that I couldn't go back from."
“Obviously there are some aspects of the car that I don't know well yet, but we have time for this,” he continued. “Our goal now must be to focus on FP3. The performance drops from lap to lap and I also need to improve the feeling with the car."
