F1 | Massa comments on Mercedes strategy in Russia: “Team orders are part of the game”

In an interview given to Corriere della Sera, Felipe Massa commented on the team play implemented by Mercedes during the last Russian Grand Prix, underlining how Toto Wolff chose a strategy that is absolutely not prohibited within the sporting regulations. Not a nice move to apply, but one that could prove fundamental in the balance of this 2018 World Cup.

According to the Brazilian, in fact, team orders are part of the history of the Circus and are something that can occur, especially with the regulations currently in force. Massa, rather, focused on the strategies implemented by Ferrari during this championship, highlighting how the Red team did not properly exploit this possibility (the most striking example is the Monza Grand Prix. ed.).

Here are the words of Felipe Massa: “Changing a winner like this is never a good thing, but it's part of the game. Maybe there wasn't much need to do it in that race, but everyone is free to choose their own strategy. It should be noted that Ferrari was probably a little lacking in this type of tactics, just think of Monza."

“It's obvious that we don't like something like this, but it's something that can happen given that the regulations allow it. I think the whole thing can be summed up by saying that team orders are part of Formula 1.", he concluded.
