F1 | Masi confirms the possibility of qualifying on Sunday morning: "It's an option"

Interviewed by the international media inside the Sochi paddock, scene of the next Russian Grand Prix, Michael Masi spoke about the approach that the race direction will follow for the afternoon programme, specifying how the hope is to take advantage of an improvement in weather conditions expected in the early afternoon.

If the weather should offer even just a useful window, the Race Direction will give the OK for the official qualifications to take place, which, we remind you, are scheduled for 14.00 pm Italian time (15.00 pm local time). Otherwise, Masi and the commissioners will consider postponing the session to Sunday morning.

“If qualifying cannot take place today, we will do it on Sunday morning,” said the FIA ​​Race Director. “The current plan provides for this, but the situation changes from minute to minute and therefore it is difficult to make precise predictions. At the moment the weather forecast confirms that we will have this intensity of rain until 13pm/14pm local time, only to then record an improvement during the afternoon".

“We are evaluating the evolution of the weather with all interested parties. In any case, the priority is certainly Formula 1 and this will take precedence over everything.", he added.
