F1 | Marko: “Vettel in Red Bull? He was no longer on the market when we chose to replace Albon”
“The possibility never existed,” said the Austrian
In a long interview given to the microphones of Servus TV, Helmut Marko spoke about Red Bull's possible interest in Sebastian Vettel, underlining how the German, despite the many transfer rumors circulating during the summer, especially between the GP of Styria and Hungary, has never been a real option for the 2021 line-up of the four-time World Champion team.
According to what the Austrian declared, Red Bull chose to replace Alex Albon only in the second part of the season, an aspect which effectively cut the German out of the list of possible candidates ("Seb" signed the contract with Aston Martin shortly before of the appointment in Tuscany),
“There has often been talk of a Vettel-Red Bull comparison, but in reality there has never been an in-depth discussion on the issue,” said Helmut Marko. “When we decided to replace Albon, Seb was no longer available. So there was never a real possibility of seeing Vettel in our team."
